Cosmetic Dentistry in Gainesville, VA

Cosmetic dentistry at Lunar Dental includes professional whitening, porcelain veneers, tooth-colored composite bonding, and digital smile design. Every plan starts with an intraoral scan (iTero Lumina) and a digital preview so you see the result before any tooth is touched. Most cosmetic cases finish in 1–3 visits. Cost: whitening from $350, bonding $300–$600 per tooth, porcelain veneers $1,200–$2,500 per tooth.

Who it's for

Patients who want subtle improvement, not a Hollywood reset. Most of our cosmetic patients are people with one or two teeth they've been quietly self-conscious about for years: a chipped front edge, a single discolored tooth, slight crowding that whitening alone won't fix. We also see patients planning a wedding, a milestone birthday, or returning to professional life after a long break who want to feel ready in photos again.

What it costs

Pricing depends on how many teeth and which procedure. Professional in-office whitening: $350–$500 (take-home tray kits from $250). Composite (same-day) bonding for chips and minor reshaping: $300–$600 per tooth. Porcelain veneers (2–3 visit process, lab-fabricated): $1,200–$2,500 per tooth depending on material and case complexity. We give you a written estimate after a digital scan and consultation — never a surprise. Most dental insurance doesn't cover cosmetic work; CareCredit and split-payment plans are available.

How it works

The cosmetic dentistry process at Lunar Dental.

  1. 1

Consultation + digital scan (45 min)

We talk about what bothers you and what you want changed. iTero Lumina scan captures your teeth in 3D. We can preview different options on screen the same visit — whitening shade simulation, veneer shapes, bonding placement.

  2. 2

    Treatment plan + preview

You leave with a written plan, a digital mock-up of the proposed result, and the cost. Take it home, think about it, come back when you're ready. We don't pressure cosmetic decisions.

  3. 3

    Whitening (if part of plan)

Either an in-office one-visit treatment (90 min, multiple shade-jumps in one sitting) or take-home trays (2–3 weeks, gentler on sensitivity). We use professional-grade gels with predictable shade outcomes.

  4. 4

Bonding or veneer prep (1–2 hours per visit)

Bonding is single-visit: shape, layer, cure, polish. Veneers are two visits: minimal tooth prep at visit 1, custom porcelain at the lab, seating and final adjustments at visit 2. Temporary veneers in between so you're never walking around with stubs.

  5. 5

    Polish + photo

Final shade match, bite check, polish. We take final photos to track how the case ages — most veneers last 10–15 years with normal care.

Why it's different here

What Lunar Dental does that others don't.

Two things make cosmetic dentistry less risky here than it used to be. First, the digital preview: we mock up the final result on a 3D model of your teeth before any irreversible prep. Second, our same-day workflow — for cases where we can use chairside-milled (fastmill.io) restorations instead of lab veneers, the whole case can finish in a single visit. For lab-made porcelain veneers we work with established ceramists; the lab is the difference between veneers that age gracefully and veneers that look like piano keys at year three.

When this isn't the right answer

If your concern is alignment (crowding, spacing, a rotated tooth), Invisalign is usually a better answer than veneers — it costs less, doesn't require prep, and gives a more natural long-term result. We'll tell you when whitening alone is enough and when bonding solves the problem at a fraction of veneer cost. We don't upsell.

Common questions

About cosmetic dentistry.

How much do veneers cost?

Porcelain veneers at Lunar Dental range $1,200–$2,500 per tooth depending on the case. Composite (same-day) bonding for similar concerns ranges $300–$600 per tooth. We give you a written quote after a digital scan and consultation — before any prep.

Will whitening damage my teeth?

Professional whitening done correctly is safe. We screen for sensitivity, cracks, and existing restorations first — bleach can't change the color of crowns or veneers, so cases involving front-tooth restorations need a different plan.

Can I see what veneers will look like before I commit?

Yes. We use iTero Lumina to scan your teeth in 3D, then design the proposed veneers on screen the same visit. For complex cases we also fabricate a physical mock-up you can wear briefly to see the shape on your face.

How long do veneers last?

10–15 years is typical for well-made porcelain veneers with normal care. Composite bonding lasts 4–7 years before it usually needs a touch-up or replacement. Both can chip if you grind your teeth at night — we screen for that and may recommend a nightguard.

Do you do smile makeovers (multiple teeth at once)?

Yes, with a staged plan. Most "smile makeovers" combine whitening, alignment (often Invisalign), and 4–10 veneers across the front teeth. We sequence the work so you're not without front teeth at any point.

Does insurance cover cosmetic dentistry?

Most dental insurance does not cover purely cosmetic procedures. Some plans cover bonding when it's replacing a damaged tooth structure (a "restorative" code rather than a "cosmetic" one). We check both pathways and tell you what's billable.

How long does whitening last?

Most patients see 1–3 years of color hold before they want a touch-up. Coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco all shorten that window. We send you home with refill gel kits for $40–$80 so you can maintain shade without another full visit.
