New Patients & First Visit

New Patients & First Visit.

How do I book a first visit at Lunar Dental?

Call 703-349-0099 or use the online scheduler on lunardentalcare.com. Most new patients are seen within 1–2 weeks; same-week visits are often available. Bring your insurance card, photo ID, and a list of medications. Plan on about 60 minutes for the first visit.

What happens at a new-patient visit?

Updated health history, digital x-rays (we re-use recent ones from your previous practice when possible), full periodontal exam, cleaning, soft-tissue and oral cancer screen, and a care-planning conversation with Dr. Zan. You leave with a written priority list of what's urgent and what can wait.

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes. Lunar Dental is actively accepting new patients of all ages — adults, teens, and children. We accept Cardinal Care (Virginia Medicaid), most major PPOs, and self-pay patients. Same-day visits are sometimes available; call for current availability.

Do I need to fill out paperwork ahead of time?

Yes — we send paperwork electronically before your visit so you can complete it at home. Forms include health history, insurance authorization, and HIPAA. If you prefer paper, arrive 15 minutes early and we'll provide it at check-in.

What if I have anxiety about coming to the dentist?

Tell us when you book and we'll plan the visit differently — slower pace, more breaks, and the option of nitrous oxide or oral conscious sedation for cleanings and treatment. We see a lot of patients who haven't been to a dentist in years; you're not alone, and we don't lecture.

Where is Lunar Dental located?

Lunar Dental is at 7120 Heritage Village Plaza, Suite 101, Gainesville, VA 20155. We're in the Heritage Village Plaza shopping center off I-66 (exit 43). Free parking. Wheelchair accessible. Serving Gainesville, Haymarket, Bristow, Manassas, Manassas Park, and Warrenton.

What are your office hours?

Monday–Friday 8 AM–5 PM and Saturday 9 AM–1 PM by appointment. Closed Sunday. Evening visits are available by request — call us at 703-349-0099 to arrange one. After-hours dental emergencies — same number, follow the prompt.

Insurance, Cardinal Care & Payment

Insurance, Cardinal Care & Payment.

What insurance do you accept?

In-network with Delta Dental, Cigna, Aetna, United Healthcare, MetLife, and most other major PPO plans. We accept Cardinal Care (Virginia Medicaid) for adults and children. Out-of-network with United Concordia and Principal; we still file the claims on your behalf so you don't have to.

Do you accept Cardinal Care / Virginia Medicaid?

Yes. Lunar Dental is in-network with Cardinal Care for both adults and children. Same dentist, same chair, same workflow as patients with private PPO insurance. We accept all current Cardinal Care MCOs (Anthem, Aetna Better Health, Sentara, Molina, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan). See our Cardinal Care page for details.

What if my insurance is out-of-network?

We see out-of-network patients regularly. We file your insurance claim on your behalf (you don't self-submit), and we tell you the expected out-of-pocket before treatment. Many out-of-network patients pay less here than in-network at corporate practices because our fees are reasonable to begin with.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. We accept CareCredit (interest-free for qualifying terms), HSA/FSA cards, and can split larger care plans across visits. For uninsured patients, we're building an in-house membership plan with annual fees and treatment discounts — ask the front desk for current pricing and availability.

What if I don't have insurance?

Self-pay patients are welcome. We publish realistic price ranges for common procedures and give you written estimates before any treatment. Self-pay cleanings typically run $150–$220, fillings $200–$400 per surface, crowns $1,200–$1,800. CareCredit and split-payment plans available.

How do you handle insurance pre-authorizations?

We submit pre-authorizations on your behalf for any major work (crowns, root canals, implants, dentures) and wait for written confirmation before scheduling. This adds 1–3 weeks to the timeline but ensures no surprise bills.

Can I check what my insurance covers before booking?

Yes. Call us with your insurance information and we'll verify your benefits, deductible status, annual maximum, and frequency limits — usually within one business day. No charge for verification.

Costs & Pricing

Costs & Pricing.

How much does a routine cleaning cost?

For insured patients, most routine cleanings and exams are covered in full or near-full. Self-pay cleanings at Lunar Dental typically range $150–$220 depending on whether you need a basic prophylaxis or deeper scaling (for patients with gum disease). We give you the price before we begin.

How much does a filling cost?

Tooth-colored (composite) fillings at Lunar Dental range $200–$400 per surface, depending on size and location. Insurance typically covers a significant portion. We give you a written estimate before treatment starts.

How much does a crown cost?

Crowns at Lunar Dental range $1,200–$1,800 depending on material. Our same-day digital workflow (scan, design, and mill in one visit) often saves you a second visit and a temporary crown. Insurance typically covers 50% after deductible; we verify your specific benefits.

How much does a dental implant cost?

A single-tooth implant at Lunar Dental typically ranges $3,500–$5,500 all-in: placement, abutment, and crown. Bone grafting (if needed) adds $400–$1,200. Multiple-implant and full-arch cases are quoted after a 3D scan. See the Implants page for full pricing breakdown.

How much does Invisalign cost?

Invisalign at Lunar Dental ranges $3,500–$6,500 for full cases depending on complexity, with simple short cases sometimes in the $2,500–$3,500 range. The fee is fixed at consultation — refinement aligners at the end are included, never billed extra.

How much does sedation cost?

Oral conscious sedation adds $250–$500 to the underlying procedure depending on visit length and medications. Most dental insurance does not cover sedation as a comfort measure. Cardinal Care covers it only in specific medical-necessity situations — we verify before booking.

Specific Procedures

Specific Procedures.

Do you do same-day crowns?

Yes. Lunar Dental uses a chairside CAD/CAM mill (Glidewell fastmill.io) and intraoral scanner (iTero Lumina) to design and fabricate many crowns in a single visit — typically 1.5–2 hours from prep to seat. Same-day crowns aren't suitable for every case; we tell you up front when a lab crown is the better answer.

Do you place dental implants in-house?

Yes. Dr. Zan performs both implant placement and the final crown restoration in our Gainesville practice. CBCT (Vatech Green CT2) is used for surgical planning. Most general practices refer the placement to an oral surgeon and only do the crown — we do both, on the same plan.

Do you do root canals?

Yes — routine root canals on front and most back teeth are performed in-house. Complex cases (calcified canals, retreatment of a failed previous root canal, certain anatomic variations) are referred to an endodontist we work with directly. We'll tell you which category your case falls into before starting.

Do you offer Invisalign?

Yes. Dr. Zan is an Invisalign Certified provider. Treatment is supervised in person every 6–8 weeks (not by video, not by app alone). Cases finish in 6–18 months for most patients. We integrate Invisalign with cosmetic or restorative work when needed.

Do you do oral conscious sedation?

Yes. Oral conscious sedation is offered for anxious patients, gag-reflex cases, and long visits. It's a prescription pill taken before the visit; you stay awake but deeply relaxed. We do not offer IV sedation or general anesthesia — those go to a vetted oral surgeon.

Do you treat sleep apnea?

Yes — Dr. Zan provides dental sleep medicine for snoring and mild-to-moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) using custom oral appliances. Requires a sleep study and sleep physician diagnosis first. Medical insurance typically covers the appliance for diagnosed OSA.

Do you see children?

Yes. Routine pediatric care — cleanings, sealants, simple fillings, sports mouthguards — is performed in-house for kids of all ages. Complex pediatric cases (extensive sedation, surgical extractions, major orthodontics) are referred to a pediatric specialist we work with.

Do you do teeth whitening?

Yes. In-office professional whitening ($350–$500) gives multiple shade-jumps in a single visit. Take-home tray kits ($250) work over 2–3 weeks with gentler sensitivity. We screen for sensitivity, cracks, and existing front-tooth restorations (which don't whiten) before treatment.

Emergencies & Pain

Emergencies & Pain.

Do you handle dental emergencies?

Yes. Same-day emergency visits are often available for active pain, swelling, broken teeth, lost crowns, or trauma. Call 703-349-0099 — if you reach voicemail outside hours, follow the emergency prompt to reach the on-call line. Don't wait days hoping it gets better.

I broke a tooth — what do I do?

Call us immediately. Save any pieces of the tooth if you can find them — sometimes we can reattach. Avoid chewing on that side. If the tooth is sensitive to cold, drink lukewarm water. If you can't reach us, take ibuprofen (not aspirin) for pain and call again at opening.

I have severe tooth pain — is this an emergency?

If you have throbbing pain that's waking you up, swelling of the face or jaw, or fever — yes, that's an emergency. Call us. If it's sensitivity to hot/cold that goes away in seconds, it's likely a cavity or worn filling and can be scheduled within a few days.

My filling fell out — how soon do I need to come in?

Within 1–2 weeks ideally. Avoid chewing on that side; food packing into the open cavity can rapidly worsen the damage. Drugstore temporary filling material (Dentemp) works as a short-term patch. Call us to schedule.

What if I lose a crown?

If the crown is intact, save it — we can often re-cement it the same visit. Don't try to glue it yourself with household adhesive. Call us same-day if possible. The exposed tooth underneath is usually fragile, so avoid chewing on that side until you're seen.

About Lunar Dental & Dr. Zan

About Lunar Dental & Dr. Zan.

Who is the dentist at Lunar Dental?

Dr. Zan Pervaiz is the sole dentist and owner of Lunar Dental. He sees every patient personally. Credentials include a DDS degree, Invisalign Certified, dental implant placement and restoration, Oral Conscious Sedation, and Dental Sleep Medicine. Practicing at this Gainesville location since 2023.

How long has Lunar Dental been open?

The practice has been at 7120 Heritage Village Plaza since 2023. Lunar Dental is the renamed identity for the location, launched in mid-2026. Same dentist, same staff, same location — we updated the brand to reflect what the practice has become.

Is there only one dentist?

Yes — Dr. Zan Pervaiz performs every procedure himself. We're intentionally a solo practice. Patients get one dentist who knows their history, their bite, and their preferences — not a rotation of associates.

What technology does Lunar Dental use?

Digital intraoral scanner (iTero Lumina) for impressions; chairside CAD/CAM mill (Glidewell fastmill.io) for same-day crowns; 3D printer (SprintRay Pro 95S) for surgical guides and aligners; CBCT (Vatech Green CT2) for 3D imaging; digital x-ray sensors (Vatech) at every operatory. Fully digital workflow, scan to delivery.

Is the practice wheelchair accessible?

Yes. Lunar Dental is on the ground floor of Heritage Village Plaza with wheelchair-accessible parking, entry, restroom, and operatory. If you have specific accessibility needs, call ahead and we'll prepare the room before you arrive.

What languages do you speak?

English is the primary clinical language. Dr. Zan speaks conversational Urdu and Hindi. Our front desk can arrange phone-based interpretation services for other languages.

Do you have a patient referral program?

We don't pay for referrals — we think that crosses an ethical line in healthcare. But word-of-mouth from satisfied patients is how solo practices stay solo, and we appreciate every patient who recommends us.
