Prep + scan (30–40 min)
Local anesthetic. Existing decay and old restoration are removed, the tooth shaped for the crown. iTero Lumina captures a 3D digital impression of the prepared tooth and the opposing arch — no goop, no gag.

Design on screen (15–20 min)
Dr. Zan designs the crown on the computer right there. Shape, contacts, bite, occlusion — all verified before milling. You can watch the design if you want; some patients find it interesting.

Milling (20–30 min)
The Glidewell fastmill.io carves the crown from a solid block of zirconia or e.max in the next room. While the mill runs, we keep you comfortable; many patients use the time to make calls or read.

Stain, glaze, and fire (10–15 min)
Final color staining for shade match, then a quick firing in our furnace to harden and glaze the surface.

Seat + bite adjust (10–20 min)
Final fit check, contact and bite adjustments, cement, polish. You walk out chewing on it. No temporary, no second visit.

Without the mill, we'd send the impression to a lab and you'd wear a temporary for 2–3 weeks. Without iTero, we'd be back to traditional impressions (uncomfortable, less accurate). The crown that comes off our mill is the same monolithic-zirconia material premium labs use; for the right case, the same-day workflow is clinically equivalent to a lab crown and gets you back to normal a week earlier.
When this isn't the right answer
Same-day chairside crowns aren't suited to every case. For large bridges, complex aesthetic front-tooth work, or cases requiring custom layered porcelain, a lab crown still wins — we send those out to ceramists we trust. For implant crowns where the implant has fully healed and the seat is straightforward, same-day chairside works well. We tell you which path your case calls for after the scan.
